GARDNER – Ronald J. Robichaud, 85, of 49 Acadia Road, Gardner, died peacefully at his residence Tuesday evening, June 5th, with his family at his side.
He was born in Gardner on November 23, 1926, the son of the late Arsene and Mary Rose (Goguen) Robichaud and was a resident of Gardner for most of his life.
Ron was a fork lift operator at Mead Containers for 17 years until his retirement. He entered the United States Navy at the age of 15 and proudly served his country during World War Two. Ron participated in the second wave in the Invasion of Normandy, driving the amphibians. He was awarded the World War Two Victory Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Theatre Medal (2 stars) and American Theatre Medal Unit Commendation 91 star). Ron was a member of Ovila Case Post #905 VFW, Gardner. Ron enjoyed woodworking and built the addition to his present home. His hobbies included camping and golfing.
He leaves his wife of 37 years, May B. (Ackert) Robichaud; three children, Steven J. Robichaud of Charlton, Brian R. Robichaud of Gardner and Denise Troest of Oxford; five stepchildren, Michael W. Martin of Brattleboro, VT, Sheree L. Grey of Leominster, Sheila M. Martin of Brattleboro, VT, Shelley L. Kunze of Keene, NH and Gordon E. Martin of Gardner, ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren. A brother, Ivan Robichaud, predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 13th at 12 Noon in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Francis A. Roberge will officiate.
Burial, with military honors, will follow in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
