TEMPLETON – Russell A. Brunson, 64, of 91 Brooks Village Road, Templeton, died peacefully Friday morning, November 2nd in Heywood Hospital, Gardner with his family at his side.
He was born in Olney, Illinois on December 16, 1947, son of the late Carl A. and Florence M. (Eisenan) Brunson and had lived in Templeton since 1986.
Russell proudly served as a US Army infantryman in Vietnam and later retrained as a RADAR repair technician until his retirement in 1986. He earned the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon and Armed Service Ribbon. After his retirement from the Army he worked for NEC and Plexis in Massachusetts.
He enjoyed shooting, and was an avid collector of pipes, stamps, knives, and lighters. He enjoyed talking about science, computers and technology. Russell was a loving father whose common sense demeanor and generosity will be sorely missed.
He leaves his wife of twenty-nine years, Chong (Won) Brunson; a daughter, Mable Mason and her husband Trevor of Templeton; two half sons, Hun Dong of CT and Kwang Dong of Korea; a grandson, June Dong and two sisters, Inez Brunson and Sarah Gibbs. He was predeceased by his brothers Carl and Donald Brunson.
In accordance with his wishes, he donated his body for anatomical research to Harvard Medical School, Boston.
Military funeral services will be held in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon at a later date.
