WINCHENDON - Ruth G. (Greenwood) Whitney, 92, of 106 Ipswich Drive, Winchendon, died peacefully Sunday evening, April 25th in Baldwinville Nursing Home. She was born in Baldwinville on August 12,1917, the daughter of the late Ralph and Mable (Whiting) Greenwood and had lived in Winchendon since 1983. Ruth worked as a house mother from 1962 to 1970 at the former Protestant Youth Center and was also a day care provider for the elderly. Many years ago, she operated a cake decorating business at her residence. In 1935, she graduated from the former Templeton High School. Ruth was a long time member of Memorial Congregational Church and its Ames Moore Guild. She loved to work with ceramics. She was the wife of the late Charles Whitney. Ruth leaves a son, Ross A. Whitney and his wife Wendy of Mineola, TX; three grandchildren, John Whitney and his wife Shelly of Mineola, TX, Kristen Whitney Sellas of Clearwater, FL and Anne Whitney-Obousy and her husband Richard of Houston, TX; five great grandchildren, Paige and Blake Whitney, Nicholas, Christopher and David Sellas, as well as nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a sister, Jennie Greenwood and a brother, Edwin Greenwood. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 1st at 2 P.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Robert Johansen will officiate. There are no calling hours.
