TEMPLETON - Ruth S. (Corrigan) "Nana" Smith, 86, of 343 Otter River Road, Templeton, died peacefully at her residence Sunday morning, December 13th, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Braintree on May 31,1923, the daughter of the late Richard and Leila (Smail) Corrigan. She was a 1941 graduate of Braintree High School but resided in Templeton for the remainder of her life, where she was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 373 of Baldwinville. Early in her life, Ruth worked as a nurse's aide. During World War Two, she worked in a woolen factory, where she helped to make bandages for the war effort. Later, she was a caregiver at the Walter E. Fernald School. She also worked as a janitor at the Otter River Elementary School. Ruth spent her entire life devoting herself to loving and caring for her husband and her family. Her loving and nurturing ways have been an inspiration to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She took a great deal of pride in showing the pictures of and bragging about the accomplishments of her entire family. Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Charles A. Smith, who died in 2007, and her oldest child, Patricia Harris of Otter River. She leaves three children, Charles Smith and his wife Katherine of Baldwinville, Christine Odiorne and her husband David of Otter River and Virginia Wilder and her husband Eugene of Templeton and a son-in-law, William Harris of Otter River. She also leaves 13 grandchildren, Betsy Labelle of Lunenberg, Jodie Parker and her husband Tom of Otter River, Julie Brown and her husband Randy of Otter River, William Harris and his wife Carol of Templeton, Molly Paine and her husband Rick of Baldwinville, Jon Harris of Otter River, Mark Hagie and his wife Tamara of Templeton, Deborah Hagie and Donna Konuch of Coventry, RI, Denise Moulton and her husband Craig of Baldwinville, Nichole Smith of Baldwinville, Shannon Smith of East Templeton, David Odiorne Jr of Otter River and Tina McGann and her husband Jack of Black Diamond, Washington; 20 great grandchildren, Kate and Andy Labelle, Joseph, Jacob and Joshua Parker, Jason and Jennifer Brown, William and Danielle Harris, Kayla and Brittany Paine, Justin Harris Deane, Drew Hagie, Summer , Olympia and Ivory Moulton, Autumn Smith, and Garrett, Brady and Carter McGann. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 17th from Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1 Forest Street, Baldwinville. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Wednesday, December 16th from 5 to 8 P.M.
