GARDNER – Ruth T. Batt, 82, of 215 Bickford Hill Road, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, November 13th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.

She was born in Plainfield, New Jersey on September 28, 1932, daughter of the late William Walter and Mabel Winifred (Ott) Troeber and had lived in Gardner for 58 years.

Ruth was a graduate of Westfield, NJ High School and Endicott College.  She had worked as a librarian assistant at Mount Wachusett Community College until her retirement.  Very involved in the Gardner community, Ruth was past president of Heywood Hospital Aid and Trustee Emeritus of Heywood Hospital.  For over 45 years Ruth served as a volunteer at Heywood Hospital.  She was an avid bridge player.  Ruth and her husband Dick enjoyed traveling, both domestically and international and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year in San Francisco, one of their favorite locations.  In her younger years, she enjoyed skiing and tennis.

Ruth was a long time member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in its choir and served on many committees.  For many years, Ruth served as an election inspector.  She was a member of Levi Heywood Library Association, Teetimers golf group and the Gardner Museum.  Ruth was a former member of Endicott Alumnae Council and Ladies Boat Club.

She leaves her husband of 60 years, Richard L. Batt; three children, Gary T. Batt of Alexandria, VA, David R. Batt of Merrimack, NH and Linda K. Batt of Lawrenceville, GA; a stepsister Patricia Moffitt; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Becker and brother, William Troeber.  Ruth’s faith, family and friends were most important to her.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 17th at 11 A.M.  in First Baptist Church, 14 High Street, Gardner.  The Rev. Jim Hinds will officiate.  Burial will be in Green Bower Cemetery.

Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Sunday, November 16th from 2 to 5 P.M.
