Ruth W. (Fenton) Place

WINCHENDON – Ruth W. (Fenton) Place of Forristall Road, Winchendon passed away peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2016 with her family at her side.  She was 88 years old.

Ruth was born in Brockton, MA on May 20, 1927, the daughter of Walter and Alberta (Ward) Fenton and had lived in Winchendon for close to 50 years.  Ruth graduated from Williams Business School in Rockland, MA and worked for the telephone company for several years.  In 1968, Ruth and her husband Bob, purchased The Winchendon Courier, where she was the office manager and Bob was the Editor and Publisher for 17 years.

During their retirement, Ruth and Bob spent time in both Winchendon and Florida.  Ruth loved taking drives, cross-stitching and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She leaves one son, Jeffrey and his wife Lisa of Canadenisis, PA, and four daughters, Karen Green and her significant other Forrest Brown of Vassalboro, Maine, Laurelee Place of Winchendon, Audrey St. Pierre and her husband Michael of Winchendon, with whom she lived, and Lisa Goodwin and her husband Roy of Upton, MA; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, and one nephew.  She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Robert L.R. Place; her son, Dean Powell Place, a grandson Daniel Lovett and her brother, Weston Fenton.

A private burial will take place in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon.  There are no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the Murdock Middle School Athletics, 3 Memorial Drive, Winchendon, MA 01475 in care of her granddaughter, Jessica Vezina, Assistant Principal.
