Sarah Proctor

GARDNER - Sarah "Sally" Proctor, 92, of 116 Church Street, Gardner, died Saturday morning, February 23rd in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was born in North Adams on November 5,1915, the daughter of Fred W. and Florence (Smith) Proctor, Sr. and had lived in Gardner for many years. Sally was a 1933 graduate of Gardner High School and was a member of the First Congregational Church in Gardner. She was the director of Food and Housing at the former Bradford Junior College for eight years from 1960 to 1968. Prior to that, she had been a dietician at Sargent and Dartmouth Colleges and House Director at Children's Hospital Convalescent Home at Wellesley Hills. Following this, she was employed by the Westminster School at Simsbury, Connecticut, as well as the Brooks School in North Andover, Massachusetts. From 1968 until 1978, she was Director of Food and Housing at Abbot Academy in Andover until consolidated by Philips Academy, when she became the Supervisor of Housekeeping. She retired from Phillips Academy in 1977. Sally was predeceased by brothers D. Edwin Proctor and Howard S. Proctor. She leaves a sister, Harriet Somers and her husband Chester Somers of Lowell; two brothers, Fred Proctor of Gardner and Earle Proctor and his wife Carolyn of Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Ernestine Proctor of FL.; five nephews, Richard Proctor of Russell, MA., Raymond Proctor of Tolland, CT., James Proctor of FL., John Proctor of Minnesota and Craig Somers of Lowell and four nieces, Susan Lynn of Ireland, Joane Bozek of VA., Karen Outhier of Missouri and Janet Johnson of MN. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 28th at 11 A.M. in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Duke Gray, interim pastor of the First Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Wilton, N.H. There are no calling hours.
