ATHOL – Sharon L. “Shunti” Gates, 65, of 108 Ridge Road, Athol died peacefully at her residence Friday evening, October 11th, were her family at her side.
She was born in Gardner on January 27, 1948, daughter of the late Herman and Lillian-Maijala (Palmer) Gates. She grew up in Athol, where she lived for most of her life.
Sharon was especially close with her children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces and had gone on a missionary trip for children to the Haitian Islands. She enjoyed music, landscaping and gardening. During her life, she held a variety of jobs but was a mother, first and foremost, to her five children.
She leaves her five children and their spouses, Kina L. Truehart of Athol, Lianne M. West of Minnesota, Kristy L. Vallee of New Hampshire, Leilani Maria Vallee of Virginia and Eric Jason Vallee of Gardner; nine grandchildren, who fondly called her “Shunti”, seven great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. She also leaves her former husband, Edmund John Vallee. The last member of her family, she was preceded in death by her siblings, David Gates, “Pizza” Alan Gates, Elaine Chaisson, Mae Gray and William Gates.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
