Stephen J. Matesowicz

TEMPLETON – Stephen J. “Matty” Matesowicz, 68, of 3 Otter River Greene, Otter River, died peacefully Wednesday, June 22nd in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.

He was born in Fitchburg, MA on September 27, 1947, son of the late William J. and Elsie (Barholm) Matesowicz and graduated from No. Middlesex Regional High School in Townsend.  He was a resident of the Baldwinville area since returning to this area in 1997.

Matty worked as a rural route carrier for the United States Postal Service in Warren, Maine and retired at the age of 50.  He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and earned the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Badge.   Matty was known as a jack of all trades by  his family and friends.  He was an avid golfer.

He leaves a son, John J. Matesowicz and his wife Liz of Otter River; two grandchildren, Zaylie and Skyla, of Otter River as well as nieces and nephews.

Military funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 28th at 12 Noon in Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, followed by a reception at the family residence.  There are no calling hours.
