Theresa A. (Lawton) Sibley

WINCHENDON – Theresa A. (Lawton) Sibley, 83, of 53 Spruce Street, Winchendon, died peacefully Friday evening, September 27th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, with her family at her side.

She was born in Winchendon on February 26, 1930, daughter of the late Joseph and Etta (Montville) Lawton and was a lifelong resident of Winchendon.  A graduate of Murdoch High School, Theresa also graduated from Mount Auburn Hospital School of Nursing.

Theresa worked as a registered nurse for 34 years at the former Winchendon Hospital until it closed.  She was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.  She loved animals, especially her cat “Max”.  Theresa enjoyed many of the events of the Winchendon Historical Society, as well as traveling and walking.  Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and her many friends.

Her husband of 49 years, Norman S. Sibley, died in 2001.  She leaves three children, Robert L. Sibley and his wife Cheryl of Hudson, NH, Gail A. Vaine and her husband Richard of Winchendon and Patricia A. Fitzgerald and her husband William of Winchendon; a sister, Lillian Courcelle of Winchendon; six grandchildren, Michael Vaine and his wife Christine, Samantha Fitzgerald, Evan Vaine and his wife Samantha, Robert L.N. Sibley, Cara T. Sibley, Bryan Vaine and his fiancé Melissa Beauvais and well as her beloved nephews, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews.  A granddaughter, Sara Sibley and two brothers, John Lawton and Robert Lawton, preceded her in death.

A memorial mass will be held Friday, October 4th at 10 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street, Winchendon.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
