WINCHENDON: Theresa Y. (LaPointe) Girard, 76, of 128B Ipswich Drive, died early Wednesday, September 20th in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, following an illness.
She was born in Winchendon on February 15,1930, the daughter of George L.M. and Georgianna V. (Laprise) LaPointe and had lived in Winchendon for most of her life.
Theresa was a hairdresser and owned and operated Therese Coiffuse for 25 years before her retirement. She was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and was Minister of the Eucharist. Active in parish activities, she worked on bazaars, church suppers, and a number of other parish activities. At one time, she was a housekeeper at the church rectory. She was the original organizer of the former Kousins Carnival for Cystic Fibrosis. She was a member of the Winchendon Historical Society and the Ipswich Tenants Council.
Theresa leaves her husband of 40 years, Leo E. Girard; three sons, George E. Ducharme Jr. and Anthony J. Ducharme, both of Athol, and Dennis E. Ducharme of Winchendon; three daughters, Mary Jane Helie of Aurora, CO, Joyce E. Carrier and Michele M. Comeau, both of Winchendon; two stepchildren, Leonette Couture of Baldwinville and Lionel Girard of Gardner; a brother, Thomas G. LaPointe of Sarasota, FL; four sisters, Anita M. Lord, Rita N. Saveall, both of Winchendon, Germaine E. Barton of Hinsdale, NH and Adrienne M.B. Alber of Middletown, RI; 22 grandchildren, a great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 23rd from the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street.
Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday, September 22nd from 6 to 8 P.M.
