WINCHENDON - Thomas P. Sandstrom, 71, of 414 Front Street, died Wednesday morning, June 21st in Heywood Hospital, Gardner. He was born in Boston on February 6,1935, the son of Siguar O. and Dorothy (Penny) Sandstrom and had lived in Winchendon for ten years after moving from Millville, MA. Previously, he had been a resident of Waltham for many years. Tom was a retired asbestos worker and pipe fitter in Massachusetts and in Maine. He was a member of Heat and Frost Insulators Local 6 Union. A Korean War veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 aboard the U.S.S. New Jersey. He was a life member of the Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion in Winchendon and was a member of Waltham VFW Post and the Elks Lodge in Billerica. His hobbies were fishing, wood crafts, country music and his love for the Red Sox. He enjoyed the ocean and lighthouses. He leaves his wife of 18 years, Mary (MacDonald) Sandstrom; two daughters, Lisa M. Gauthier and her husband Kevin of Winchendon and Leanne M. Vasile of Waltham; two sisters, Alice G. Johnson of Waltham and Pamela L. Sperry of Burlington; six grandchildren, one great granddaughter and two nephews, D.J. Sperry and Daniel Sperry. Calling hours will be held in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon on Friday, June 23rd from 6 to 8 P.M.
