WINCHENDON - Vello Ots, 72, died peacefully Monday morning, September 22nd, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hiiumaa, Estonia on April 6,1936, the son of Rein and Linda (Volens) Ots, and had lived in Winchendon, since 1951, after moving to this country at the age of 14. Vello worked at Heywood Wakefield for 10 years before starting his own business with his father-in-law, Henry LaFalam. He operated Vello's Mobile lunch with his wife for 38 years until his retirement. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1958, as a paratrooper. Vello was a member of Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion in Winchendon and Stiles Brook Lodge in Vermont. An avid photographer, Vello also enjoyed gardening, mushrooming, hunting and fishing. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family. He leaves his wife of 47 years, Jacqueline L. (LaFalam) Ots; three children, Viki Mosher of Holden, Susan LaFortune and her husband Peter of Mt. Airy, MD., and David Ots of Winchendon; three sisters, Silvi Marinelli, Evi Fitzmaurice and her husband Edward, and Eha Karvonen and her husband Richard, all of Winchendon; four grandchildren, Jessica and Cameron LaFortune, and Ian and Patrick Mosher; two half-sisters, Urve Jurgenson and Ulle Meister, both of Estonia and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 26th at 10 A.M. in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Jackson L. Williams will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Thursday, September 25th from 6 to 8 P.M. with a Legion Service at 7 P.M. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. www.snow-ladeau.com
