Wendell A. Rockwood

GARDNER - Wendell A. Rockwood, 78, of 310 Pearl Street, died Tuesday, February 21st in Heywood Hospital, Gardner after being stricken ill at home. He was born in Gardner on April 28,1927, the son of Albert and Ruth (Willard) Rockwood and had been a lifelong resident of Gardner. Wendell worked for the B&M Railroad for 40 years until his retirement. He was a 1945 graduate of Gardner High School and a 1951 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. During World War Two, he served in the United States Navy from 1945-1946. He was a trustee of the Monadnock Trust. A member of the First Congregational Church and Ovila Case Post #905 V.F. W., he was also a former Cub Scout leader and Boy Scout volunteer. He leaves his wife of 49 years, Elaine (Erickson) Rockwood; two sons, Steven W. Rockwood of Gardner and John P. Rockwood of Auburn; a sister, Eleanor Rowe of Trotwood, Ohio; three grandchildren, Eric Rockwood, Lisa Rockwood and Justin Edmonds and several nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Albert Rockwood, Jr., Willard Rockwood and Alan Rockwood, predeceased him. A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, February 25th in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Janet Skagerlind, pastor of First Congregational Church, Gardner, will officiate. Burial will be in Green Bower Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones choice. www.snow-ladeau.com
