BALDWINVILLE – William A. “Bill” O’Brien Jr., 87, of 263 State Road, died peacefully Friday morning, October 24th in Baldwinville Nursing Home, with his family at his side.

He was born in Gardner on July 8, 1927, son of the late William A. and Mary L. (Hood) O’Brien and lived in Baldwinville for most of his life.  Bill was a 1945 graduate of the former Templeton High School.

Bill worked for 37 years for Erving Industries of Baldwinville, where he was yard foreman, until his retirement.  Following his graduation from high School, Bill proudly served his country during World War Two with the United States Army.  He served four years in Occupation Forces.

Bill was a founding member and the first president of Otter River Sportsman’s Club and was a member of the American Legion in Baldwinville and St. Martins Church.  For 22 years he had wintered in Florida.  His hobbies included being an avid New England Patriot fan, camping, reading, playing cribbage and puttering around the house.

He leaves his wife of  60 years, Lorraine (Boucher) O’Brien; five children, James A. O’Brien and his wife Kathy of Ashburnham, Susan M. O’Brien of Alburg, VT, Sandra J. Kendall and her husband Jay of Otter River, Carol A. Farrell and her husband Tom of Phillipston, and David J. O’Brien and his wife Susan of Winchendon; nine grandchildren, Patrick W. O’Brien, Shawn Janssens, Andrew Kendall, Kate Kendall, Kelly Farrell, Meghan Farrell, Kara Farrell, Nickolas O’Brien and Shannon O’Brien; three great grandchildren, Kirsten O’Brien, Olivia O’Brien and Patrick O’Brien; a brother Joseph O’Brien of Winchendon;a special caregiver, Joyce O'Brien of No. Adams as well as nieces and nephews.  Two brothers, Donald O’Brien and Edward O’Brien, preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 27th at 11:30 A.M. in St. Martin’s Church, State Road, Otter River.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery at 1 P.M.

Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Sunday, October 26th from 5 to 7 P.M.
