William H. Mattos
June 4, 1942 — January 24, 2011
WINCHENDON – William H. “Bill” Mattos, 68, of 85 Woodlawn Street, Winchendon, died peacefully Monday, January 24 th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester, after a short illness.
He was born in Gardner on June 4, 1942, the son of the late Manuel J. and Patience P. “Pat” (Meehan) Mattos and was a resident of Winchendon for most of his life.
Bill was a 1960 graduate of Murdock High School. While in high school, he played both football and baseball. He worked as a printer at New England Business for 30 years. Most recently, he worked at the Winchendon Golf Course and Winchendon School Skating Rink. Bill was an avid sports fan, and he especially enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. His grandchildren and his great grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He leaves his wife of 48 years, Marcia E. (Smith) Mattos; three daughters, Penny McMullan and her husband Mark of Brunswick, GA, Gayle Mezzanotti and her husband William of Ashburnham and Kimberly Mattos and her companion Gary Page of Gardner; one son, William J. Mattos and his wife Lois of Shirley; seven grandchildren, Cassie Veillette and her husband Josh, Sarah Mezzanotti, Tiffany Mezzanotti, Chad McMullan, Jennie McMullan, Briana Caron and Adam Boulanger. He also leaves two great granddaughters, Kylee Cormier and Emma Veillette; one brother, Michael J. Mattos of FL; six sisters, Page-Ann Coleman of Athol, Jacquelyn D. Frantz of Georgia, Janet G. Flanagan of Winchendon, Nancy M. Labossiere of FL, Susan E. Martin of Winchendon and Debra L. Daniels of Fitzwilliam, NH and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 29 th at 11 A.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Francis A. Roberge will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday, January 28 th from 6 to 8 P.M.
