ASHBURNHAM – William V. McIntyre, Jr., 69, of 16 Balsam Drive, Ashburnham, died Monday morning, January 28th in Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, after a long battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Simonne (St. Pierre) McIntyre and two children, Paul McIntyre of Ashburnham and Suzanne McIntyre MD and her husband Scott Paul MD of Boston and one brother, John McIntyre of Fitchburg.
William was born in Manchester, CT on December 31, 1943, the first born son of William and Taimi McIntyre. He was a graduate of Fitchburg High School.
Bill, as he was known to his friends, was a disabled veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a blackhawk helicopter pilot for the US Army (7th Armored Squadron, 1st US Calvary) and was awarded the Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, O/S Bars, Good Conduct Medal and Army Aviation Badge. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend.
Bill worked for North Central Correctional Institute in Gardner as a corrections officer for 20 years until his retirement in 2008. He previously worked as a truck driver. Bill enjoyed oil painting on the beaches of Maine.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 31st at 12 Noon in Ashburnham Community Church, 9 Chapel Street, Ashburnham. Burial will follow in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
