GARDNER – William W. Adams, 91, of 93 Cherry Street, Gardner, died Thursday evening, July 25th, at his residence, after a long illness.

He was born in Stoughton on April 6, 1922, son of the late William A. and Lucy (Henry) Adams and was a 1940 graduate of Abington High School.

Bill was a truck driver and yard man for Heywood Wakefield Furniture Co. for many years.  He later drove for Gem Industries and worked as a truck mechanic until his retirement.  His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family and repairing or building things for them.

During World War Two, Mr. Adams proudly served in the United States Army.  He was a life member of Ovila Case Post 905 VFW.

His wife of 64 years, Doris E. (Burns) Adams, died last year.  He leaves five children, William Douglas Adams and his wife Sedonia of Augusta; GA, Kathleen Adams Vincent, widow of Louis Vincent, of Oakland, CA; David Adams and his wife Shirley of Richmond, VA; Mary “Connie” Varney and her husband Donald of Phillipston; Kenneth Adams and his wife Terry of Greenfield, as well as eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces and his devoted niece, Nancy Howland of Elmwood.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 5th at 10 A.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon.  The Rev. Brian O’Toole, pastor of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, will officiate.

Burial, with military honors, will follow in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice or to the charity of one’s choice.
