WINCHENDON - Zigmund Maliska, 92, formerly of 251 West Street, died Saturday, August 6th in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner following an illness. He was born in Winchendon on September 6,1912, the son of Peter and Helen (Stanecko) Maliska and resided there until moving to the nursing home three years ago. His wife of 63 years, Irene G. (Houle) Maliska, died in 1998. Ziggy was a machinist at General Electric Company in Fitchburg before retiring in 1974. He formerly worked at the Thayer Manufacturing Company in Gardner. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War 2 and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and World War 2 Victory Medal. He was a member of the Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion and the Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post 2158 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Ziggy leaves two sons, Thomas P. Maliska of Steilacoom, WA and Wayne Z. Maliska of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a son, Robert P. Maliska of St. Petersburg, FL, in 2004. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 15th from the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday, August 14th from 6-8 P.M. with a Legion Ritual at 7:30 P.M.
